CC Meeting notes 3-15-2021

  • Expansion of Central Committee

    • Ideal membership of 9

    • Based on conversation at NEA meeting

    • $$$ -- dues increase of ~$1/Mo would pay for 5 new members

    • 5 new positions:

      • Diversity officer

      • Grievance officer

      • Social Media Coordinator

      • International Student Liaison

      • Outreach/Recruitment coordinator

  • Semester-ly member assemblies, yearly elections for all positions

  • This is a LOT for the next 6 weeks to try and accomplish

    • More realistically, a vote on restructuring will constitute a successful semester

  • If membership does not approve dues increase or full expansion, re-adding 5th member still a goal.

Matt: Send out a concise report of where dues go to the constituency for clarity. Include what is needed for CC expansion, projections for future events in a post-pandemic world. Specifically include how much the GEO actually gets compared to what members pay.

~6k in cash on hand, what are wise ways to utilize this? Rhode Island invests spare cash, is that something we could look into doing? Would still need available funds for normal expenditures.

Tentative Member Assembly Agenda:

  1. Vote on constitutional amendments (need to be sent out beforehand)

  2. Re-introduction of CC to membership

  3. Committees moving forward

    1. Construction, representation, who can contribute

  4. Steward council representation, needs, and future plans

  5. Dues increase and budgetary concerns

  6. Q&A session

For member feedback: 1 month of email input for changes, 1 week of “in-person” input online (divide and conquer, have a couple of CC members available during each) before setting an agenda for a formal member assembly. New folder created for file uploads of proposed amendments (current constitution is also in there).
