4-12-2021 CC Meeting Notes

Payroll: weirdness involved in transition from monthly to biweekly -- having no dues deducted in the month of March results in the deduction being ~$9/paycheck until the end of the semester. Going forward it will be 7.28/paycheck, and if there is a third check in the month there will be no dues deducted.

Member Assembly: Doodle poll link here, results forthcoming. Rough draft agenda is here.

Kirke updates: ~40 people marching in downtown for the right to organize bill (passed house, going to senate) -- Fact Sheet

While the bill is defacto partisan and Jon Tester is helping to sponsor it, it is a pro-labor bill that the union supports.

This will be brought up in the Member Assembly, and is something we can solicit opinions from our constituency before we put out any sort of official statement.

--FGH repurposing faculty and staff on-campus housing

  • Making it more available to students

  • NTT and staff most affected

  • Seth reaching out to Emma to gather more first-hand information (the actual announcement, dates, real %’s of BIPOC displaced, etc)

  • As a union, we do not support this band-aid solution of displacing F&S for more grad student housing. Voice concern to the powers that be, and try to ascertain why this solution was considered the best answer, and do they anticipate this to be a recurring problem-- what is the solution moving forward.
